Family Meeting: The Purpose of (all) Emotions
Welcome to this week’s version of Family Meeting! If you’re new here, head over to this article to become acquainted with the structure of our family meetings!
This week we are going to dive into the topic of emotions. By now, as adults, reflecting on what role emotions play in a positive light, can lift the heaviness associated with certain feelings - especially the negative-feeling ones! When we feel sad, it's not just an uncomfortable state; it's a signal encouraging empathy and connection with others. Anger, often viewed negatively, is actually a crucial emotion for signaling when something isn't right. It can motivate us to make changes, express our needs, and set boundaries, leading to personal growth and better relationships. On the other end of the spectrum, happiness and joy are not just pleasant states of being but are essential for promoting bonding, resilience, and a positive outlook on life. By embracing the full range of our emotions, we learn to navigate life more effectively and support each other in our journeys.
Let’s dive in as we reflect on the role emotions play in each of our lives!
